Manly affections: the photographs of Robert Gant 1885–1915

My recent book review of Chris Brickell’s wonderful Manly Affections: the Photographs of Robert Gant 1885-1915 (in Gender, Place & Culture: A Journal of Feminist Geography) is now available to read online at Taylor and Francis.

Brickell’s publication explores the life of Robert Gant as an English immigrant in New Zealand, and as a man who loved men. Manly Affections places his experiences and his photography alongside scholarly analysis of the social history of New Zealand. The preview video below showcases some of Gant’s work, and you can find out more about Manly Affections on this website.
